these things take time

Whoa! It's been nearly a year since I posted! So, to summarize the past year or so, my life has included: three jobs (flight attendant, postman and community worker), three apartments (but all in Edmonton, goddamnit), several concerts (Art Brut, Tegan and Sara, the Weakerthans, Final Fantasy, M. Ward, and Maximo Park are all that come to mind at the moment), four pets (our hamsters Augusta Peepi, Morrissey, and Marr, and our dog Mr. Aloysius Baxter Buns), and one lady love, Jessica. A lot of change, but all for the better, I would say.

Besides the above, the other things on which I've wasted my time instead of posting have been facebook, facebook, and facebook (oh, and various televisual phenomena like Dexter and Heroes - which I have to say, has been rather disappointing this season). I know, I know, it's terrible. Terrible! But I'm addicted to facebook's online scrabble game thingy, and most of my immediate family live very far away, so it's a handy way to keep in touch. Also, it's so much easier to post and share photos and videos and such on facebook than on an actual blog.

Speaking of which, here's a video of our dog, Mr. Buns:

Isn't he cute? Wouldn't you like to see more of him? Well you could, if you JOINED FACEBOOK (Kerry, I'm talking to you!). Heh.

Let's get decadent.

Apparently, according to the brilliant bastards at Pajiba

"...IMDB suggests that a prequel to Bubba Ho-Tep is in the works, entitled Bubba Nosferatu and the Curse of the She-Vampires..."

Come and get it, you undead sack of shit.

In the meantime, here's a clip of Bruce Campbell, hungry like the wolf, in an Old Spice advert:

Van-coo-ver

So, Jerry Falwell is dead.

...

I'm going to try my darndest to be polite and simply say, condolences, but I myself will certainly not be mourning the loss of that fellow.

The passing of Kurt Vonnegut last month, however, that was truly saddening. I loved that guy.

Speaking of love, Jess and I are spending next week in Vancouver! Whoo! Sadly, we will be leaving just in time to miss seeing Patrick Wolf perform there. That very morning, in fact. Gargh and blargh!

Once Jessica is finished school we plan to move somewhere other than Edmonton (thank god!), and we've been thinking either Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal or Ottawa, so this will be a good opportunity to check out Vancouver as a potential place to live. To be honest, however, I don't really care where we go, and could even tolerate staying here in Edmonton, so long as I'm with Jess.

Um. Sorry about the mush. Monday was our 6 month anniversary and I'm still feeling a bit sentimental (with the emphasis on "mental" - heheheh).

The first four parts of the documentary "The God Who Wasn't There" can be found on here on Youtube , but alas, much like the titular figure, the end does not appear to be there.

...he gathered himself and uttered the final answer on that subject: “NEVER!”

Hmm...

And speaking of sorcerers: Gather round, my fellow geeks, for this is your week in the sun. Mere days after the publication of the first in a series of comic books based on Stephen King’s The Dark Tower series, rumors are spreading that TV wunderkind/easily distracted filmmaker J.J. Abrams is in talks with King to adapt the sprawling series of books for the screen....

I'm not really sure how I feel about that.

However, doesn't Hot Fuzz look all sorts of amazing? Indeed it does. Simon Pegg! Bill Bailey and Martin Freeman! Stephen Merchant and a swan! Olivia Colman from Peep Show and Green Wing! Kevin Eldon from Big Train! Bill Nighy, and Steve Coogan! Moz's own Billie Whitelaw (who will also soon be seen in Stardust along with Adam Buxton, and other Green Wingers Mark Heap, Sarah Alexander and Julian Rhind-Tutt)! It's so exciting it warrants all those explosions!

From Emma With Love

On Saturday night, Jess's friend Nicolle had a James Bond-themed-party, and I attended dressed as this guy:

teehee

though I looked more like this guy:

swan

Not only did I have a great time (as far as I can remember, that is), I also learned a couple of things from that party. I learned that a quadruple martini followed by some rum and coke is a bad idea, and that the best hangover cure is actually two-and-a-half-hours of coronation street.

Then yesterday Jess and I went to the Edmonton Science centre, and I managed to avoid learning a single thing! Oh, but in the gift shop they had an Albert Einstein action figure! And cute little stuffed-animal-type germs and viruses. They even had a cute little AIDS virus, which is completely wrong in so many ways.

Weird dreams last night:

After having lunch with Noel Fielding and Julian Barratt, I was sectioned and taken to a psychiatric ward, where I played a game of basketball and the goalie (er, I don't play sports much) was stabbed by another patient.

Then I was stuck on someone's balcony with Jessica and we broke into his house and started rifling through his study and looking at his collection of Dr. Who dvds and memoribilia, but I was worried he was going to come home any minute - and he did! So we stole some random, mismatched boots and escaped.

Um...oh, and this morning, Jess said she loved me. Gah! I mean, GAH! I'm sure glad she didn't first make that declaration on Valentine's Day, or I'd have told her to get out of my frigging apartment. Heheheh. Of course I said I loved her, too. 'Cause I do. Eurgh, but true.

Some book recommendations:

The Mortdecai Trilogy by Kyril Bonfiglioli
King Dork by Frank Portman
Fragile Things by Neil Gaiman

Warming to Jessica

It is so cold when she doth go
In this, a town of ice and snow
And though I shiver when she's near
I shiver more without her here

The temperature is far too low
It is so cold when she doth go
To match my mood, fingers turn blue
Which cannot be a healthy hue

And lo, I can now see my breath
I shall be found frozen to death
It is so cold when she doth go
That body functioning does slow

Should I ever dare mistreat her
I shall have to buy a heater
Which will not warm my heart aglow
It is so cold when she doth go.

...Ha ha, I'm such a dork.
